Amanda Ansell’s painting ‘Arvensis’ is showing in Somewhere Unexpected at the Timothy Gurney Gallery until 12th September. Somewhere Unexpected presents artists based in East Anglia who have responded to and acknowledge the significance of our immediate environments in the shifting context of a global pandemic. The exhibition addresses the way we all find ourselves in a new relationship with the landscape that surrounds us.
Commenting on her painting in the show,’ Amanda Ansell says, “’Arvensis’ makes reference to the expansive landscape and is analogous to the sensual rhythms we encounter when we are in unity with nature. Immersion in the environment and gestural abstraction go hand in hand. The gesture is a direct link to my psyche. I am drawn to the synesthetic encounter; the stimulation of my emotions by the constant sound of moving water combined with observations of the green environment and swirling water riverscape. I am interested in the simple forms, the earthy, organic colours, seeking a synthesis between my impressions of a moment and my movement captured in liquid paint.”
