Beneath the Clouds is a group exhibition set within the Dedham Vale countryside at The Granary, Flatford, East Bergholt, Suffolk. Curated by the painter Sarah Milne, ‘Beneath the Clouds’ showcases artists who use location and nature as an impetus to create work that encapsulates personal memories and artistic vision.
Exhibiting artists are Amanda Ansell, Louise Balaam, Wendy Brooke-Smith, Ruth Carter, Simon Carter, Julie Cuthbert, Jane Lewis, Sarah Milne, Ruth Philo, Felicity Young, Nat Young.
Flatford is managed by the National Trust, and is famous for being the location for John Constable’s Haywain painting (1821). The artist had a deep connection with this area and often depicted scenes from his childhood, including those along the banks of the River Stour.
In this group show Amanda Ansell is exhibiting three paintings inspired by the natural cycles of landscape, and the river close to her studio (which also overlooks the River Stour). Here, similar to the setting of Flatford Mill, the river forms the border between Suffolk and Essex.
Beneath the Clouds opens at The Granary on the 10th of May 2024, with opening drinks from 6-8 pm. The exhibition is open every day thereafter until Sunday 19th May. Opening hours 11 am to 4 pm.
