Amanda Ansell has been invited to participate in British Painting 3 at The Bermondsey Project Space, London. British Painting 3 introduces painters working today, who use paint as their primary medium.
The show will include two works from a new series that Amanda started painting during the Covid-19 pandemic. She says: “As we entered a time of unprecedented thinking, fresh challenges, and adjustment, the tyrannous conditions of the pandemic saw a battle with my unconscious come into play, characterised by anxious energy and obsession. Notions of being at one with the natural rhythms of the universe, losing myself in ritual, routine, gardening and walking all featured heavily during this broken time. Alone in the studio, I imagined primordial forces at work in a cycle of destruction and re-creation and as a result, my curved gestural paint lines moved towards a circular formation to represent timelessness, pools of water, and completeness. The minimalist paintings make wider reference to the expansive, tranquil river landscape near my studio and reference the sensual rhythms we can encounter when we are in unity with nature.”
